There are many techniques that are used to make concrete decorative. Decorative concrete work can contain many concrete applications including stamped concrete, stenciled concrete, colored concrete, polished concrete, concrete overlay & epoxy coating. These techniques also have various names including imprinted concrete, textured concrete, acid etched concrete, acid stained, acid etched, acid washed concrete, and even faux concrete.

Decorative stamped concrete, also known as, imprinted concrete or textured concrete is one of the most common techniques contractors use for new decorative concrete construction on patios, sidewalks, driveways, and other decorative slabs of concrete. Decorative stamped concrete is the most common form of textured, imprinted, and faux concrete finish. "Decorative stamped concrete" is concrete stamped to resemble stone, slate, brick, tile, granite, marble, or even wood plank. It is called stamped concrete or imprinted because of the method used to imprint the surface of the concrete. We use heavy textured concrete rubber stamps to portray the texture.

There are many decorative concrete acids and water based decorative concrete stains to color concrete. Concrete acid staining is a chemical process involving a chemical reaction on a cement material. Concrete acid stain or acid etching is applied to the concrete floor or slab, and will stain different colors based on the acid’s type and reaction time. Acid staining gives concrete a granite or marble concrete look. These decorative concrete stains and acids are generally applied on an interior finished new concrete floor, slabs, and on residential, industrial, and commercial smooth toweled or polished concrete surface. 

Polished concrete is achieved by exposing and smoothing the aggregate in a concrete floor. To polish a concrete floor surface finish, we grind the concrete with finer and finer grinding pads. Many times before concrete can be stained, overlays, or epoxy coated the concrete needs to be scarified or polished to removal impurities on the concrete. Polishing an old concrete floor is done for the color to penetrate and concrete coatings to hold.

Gray concrete is categorized into two groups, exterior and interior concrete flatwork. Plain and simple, there are indoor and outdoor slabs of concrete. The two main types of finishes we use for traditional gray concrete are hard-toweled and broom finish concrete techniques. Trowel finishes are usually used indoors on projects such as new concrete garage floors, basement concrete floors, and commercial concrete slabs, where a smooth, hard, and flat surface is acquired.
